Artist statement/cv

I am an artist whose work often straddles the worlds of hyper-realism and abstract, often veering into the surreal. I prefer the space in between as it allows greater opportunity for others to explore, examine and interpret the imagery.

While I use a variety of techniques and mediums, the goals of my work are consistent: explorations of coloration while trying to make sense of the social and natural worlds. My inspiration often is rooted in my longstanding work in investigating women’s roles in Western society. I interrogate feminine ideals as they relate to society and nature, using representational totems often associated with the feminine like food, bodies, fashion and nature. The imagery can help shed light on how in spite of progresses made, stereotypes and expectations often stubbornly remain the same.
